The Social, Spiritual, Moral and Cultural Development of pupils is important to us and one way in which we foster this is by promoting our Vision Values, our British Values and by providing the children with a quality Personal Development Curriculum.
Democracy
We believe it is important that our children have an understanding of how democracy works as a crucial part of our nation’s electoral system. We endeavour to encourage our children to engage with democracy through giving them the knowledge and skills to make informed decisions as adults. We believe that children should express their ideas and beliefs and constructively challenge others. We also interpret democracy to indicate a state of society characterised by equality of rights and privileges. We teach children that everyone has equal opportunities and a voice.
Rule of Law
It is important to us that our pupils have a good understanding of the significance of rules and laws. We believe that all people and institutions are subject to and accountable to law and that this is fairly applied and enforced. We try to instil in our children a clear sense of right and wrong but also to be forgiving and ask for forgiveness when we have made mistakes.
Individual Liberty
We believe that individual liberty is fundamental for ensuring equality. We teach children that in Britain everyone has the ability to exercise their rights. It is important for children to understand that rights come with responsibilities and we ensure that, as the children become more mature, they are given more responsibilities to develop skills that will enable them to become good global citizens.
Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of our Vision Values and our British Values. It is important that children learn that their behaviours have an effect on their own rights and those of others. We believe that it is crucial that the entire school community treats each other with respect at all times.
Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We believe that everyone should be treated equally regardless of factors such as gender, ethnicity, sexuality, age, faith and beliefs. We actively celebrate the diversity of our community and instil in our children a fair and caring attitude to those whose faith and beliefs may differ from their own.
