Uniform

All pupils are expected to wear full school uniform. Parents need to ensure their child/ren wear uniform as detailed below:

  • Grey trousers or grey skirt/pinafore (not cycling shorts, leggings or jogging bottoms)
  • Gold polo shirt (with logo optional)
  • Blue/white checked dress for summer
  • Royal blue school jumper or cardigan (with logo optional)
  • Black flat soled shoes
  • Wellington Boots

School dress can give children pride in their school and their possessions. It also eases recognition in and out of school and can give the school a good name in the community. School dress avoids unfair discrimination between pupils and provides a practical outfit for everyday wear at school. High standards in dress help to promote high standards in other areas such as discipline. It can ease problems for parents regarding arguments about choice of clothes and gives them the opportunity to provide clothes at reasonable prices.

Uniforms can be ordered through either School Trends and My Clothing.

Many other retail outlets offer out uniform in generic form and this is also acceptable. We also keep a few items in stock, such as royal blue PE shorts, that can be purchased directly from the office.

School uniform can be donated or collected from the Colchester Uniform Exchange at 76 East Hill, Colchester CO1 2QW Telephone: 01206 621998

If you have any queries relating to uniform please do not hesitate to ask at the office where they will be happy to assist you.

Parents must ensure that ALL clothing is clearly marked with their child's name.

Jewellery

Pupils with pierced ears may wear plain studs or sleepers only. No other jewellery is permitted.

Shoes

In view of the many flights of steps in and around the building pupils should wear a sensible, flat style of shoe (not trainers or and never open toed sandals). A pair of Wellington boots must be kept in school for learning outside the classroom and Forest School activities. Children must change into their school shoes when inside the building and store their

Wellington boots on the year group sheds provided. This helps us to maintain the high standards of cleanliness in the school.

PE Clothing

PE, including swimming, is a statutory subject and all children must take part unless there is a genuine medical reason for not doing so. PE clothing is needed on each school day. PE kit the children need to wear is detailed below:

  • Royal blue shorts
  • White t-shirt
  • Black plimsolls
  • Grey tracksuits (for outdoor sports in winter)
  • White trainers (for outdoor sports in winter)

A draw string bag is required for each child to store PE clothing, all of which should be clearly named. Earrings must be removed for PE and games. Staff cannot assist children with this.

Forest School Clothing

All year groups have a Forest School session timetabled weekly. Your child will need to wear:

  • Suitable old clothes which must include a long-sleeved t-shirt and long trousers all year round (with extra for cooler and winter weather). This is to protect from bites, stings and scratches.
  • Hat, gloves and scarf (for the cooler and winter months)
  • Waterproofs
  • Sun hat in the summer months
  • Wellies - please do not wear the wellies into school. The Wellington boots will be kept in school on a designated cupboard on the KS2 playground for learning outside the classroom activities as well as Forest School. Your child will be able to change into these when they leave for the woodland.

Book Bags

All children will be given a Kendall book bag when they start at Kendall in EYFS. This book bag must be used throughout their time at Kendall. This is so that the books we lend from our extensive library are kept in good condition for the next child to borrow. We do not recommend bulky backpacks as there is not the cloakroom space for them in school. We do not expect our books to be carried to and from home in a backpack, this is what our reading book bags are provided for.

Uniform Swap

We have set up a Facebook group so that good quality uniform, forest school waterproofs and coats, etc. could be passed on for free to prevent items of uniform and clothing, that could be worn by others, from going straight to landfill. This is an online area for school uniform / forest school clothes / costumes for plays etc. which can be passed on for free for other pupils at the school to get use out of. Please make sure items are in a clean condition before handing over, obviously they will have been used to some extent so it is expected that items may be faded or show slight wear and tear. When you have arranged to pass on an item you are then welcome to drop it off at the school (please ensure the name and class of who the item is to go to is attached) so a hand over can be completed, or switch between yourselves - whatever suits you best!

All parents and carers are welcome to join - so please do share with other friends and members of the school so that they can join the group. The group can be joined here.
